The space that we have found for the exhibit is small, around 400 sq/ft, and we have already forwarded information to you about size restraints. If we add more people to the exhibit, there is a very real possibility that this will become a small-works exhibit, with an even tighter size restraint.

So, where is the balance point? We want the presentation to be nice and with the survey show format, it is sometimes best to plan on making sure there is enough space so that works don't compete.

The roster right now includes twenty-five artists. How many artists can we comfortably expand to without diluting the existing roster's presence? Another thing to consider is the Pittsburgh shows. We have more room at the spaces in Pittsburgh. If you, as individuals included in these exhibits, are willing to absorb the cost, there is more room available at one of the Pittsburgh venues.

As, I have said before, one of the most interesting things about this show is how it might play out online.

Also, any artists added after this point will have to live with the name we picked.

What's in a name?

Thanks to everyone the sent in your votes for naming the exhibit. I know there was a delay in the search for the perfect name for the exhibit, so here is a list of all of the titles that received multiple positive comments --

Dashboard

Portmanteau
Blart
BL/ART
bl'art

2.0
2.0: We are They

Blart came in as an early winner, but it seemed like there were some very strong counter-arguments that have kind of knocked it out of the running. There were a few people that mentioned Dashboard. And a couple people talked about 2.0. For those of us that are unaware of the meaning, the following is from Wikipedia (the rest of the article is here.)
--

Web 2.0, a phrase coined by O'Reilly Media in 2003[1] and popularized by the first Web 2.0 conference in 2004[2] , refers to a perceived second generation of web-based communities and hosted services — such as social-networking sites, wikis and folksonomies — which facilitate collaboration and sharing between users. O'Reilly Media titled a series of conferences around the phrase, and it has since become widely adopted.

So, really, there is no consensus about the name even if there were a couple people that expressed strong opinions. Let's give this one more go and see if we can reach a real consensus. Yes, you can still suggest new titles and you can resurrect one from the previous post.

More Thoughts

I think my last post on here may have been confusing. I will coming up with some more exact maximum dimensions for that show.

It's the Pittsburgh part of the show that is more open ended.

Blogger Show Thoughts

Bill Gusky has done a good job at pointing out the reasons that I hesitated to do a show of artists with blogs. This is the kind of show that would encompass a large number of spaces and be on a pretty vast scale to make a dent in the subject. It seems for that reason, few people have tried it. The truth is that the tiny space in NY, I will be renting-- I need exact measurements but it's not much more than 400 square feet and the 1750 sq ft. (or so) of my Pittsburgh space are hopelessly inadequate and my budget and connections are even more so.

For that reason, I wanted to try to enlist other galleries both inside and outside of Pittsburgh to somehow involve themselves. By pure luck, Boxheart gallery, in Pittsburgh will be having a show of Tracy Helgeson which can be promoted as if we had planned it. Also, I got one other gallery here that wants to host the show.

One big problem (which is a major reason I want to do the show) is that Pittsburgh's art scene is sadly disconnected from any major art media and my little gallery is marginally funded and unlikey to rack up a lot of sales to support the show. For that reason, I don't think it's a worthwhile project to to involve too many non regional artists in the Pittsburgh shows which will be a bit more locally focused.

At this point, several out of town artists will be have big roles. Tracy, will have just one work in my Pittsburgh space, but by default will have a big role in the project because of her Boxheart show. Bill Gusky has agreed be in a two person show with Susan Contanse in Digging Pitt Too. Local artist, Marc Snyder will have a show of his Zero Sum Art Project. Several other out of town artists may also play significant roles. The vital thing is that, A) the work is good, but sadly for practical reasons, that the artist really wants to be part of the show. I will not be able to cover shipping costs, either to or from the gallery and i need all kinds of other help with the shows.

One of the main areas of help will be in online promotion of the shows. I am also looking for projects that can be extended into the online world.

The Blogger Show - dates and titles

Blogger Show (working title)

Pittsburgh (Digging Pitt and Digging Pitt Too)
November 10 - January 12
Public Reception: December 8

Pittsburgh (Panza Gallery)
Dates TBD

New York
November 1 - 30
Public Reception:TBD

Did you notice the show title?
